...I just realized that in the whole time I have kept this blog, with the exception of two brief posts, I have never mentioned Emilie Autumn...So I thought I'd do just that!
A very talented musician and intelligent woman, and one of the artists whose work has had a lasting influence and impact on me. Pretty hard to describe the genre of music, bit of everything, or as it has come to be known victoriandustrial. Recently read The Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rock Star by Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe fame.
It is a brilliant book comprised of diary entries between December 1986 and December 1987 and entries later added when the book was written. It was published in 2007 I believe. It is often a humorous and brutally honest view of a heroin addicts life. From taken any drug to hitting the proverbial rock bottom and even being pronounced clinically dead for a few minutes to how he started again and continued going. The book has input and entries from those who know and knew him best then, such as his Mötley Crüe band mates.
Definitely worth a read, I borrowed my copy from a friend of mine and couldn't put it down, it's also full of Nikki Sixx's art, lyrics, random thoughts and an array of black and white photographs. I think I may have to purchase a copy for myself to read again.
Definitely worth a read for anyone interested in Mötley Crüe or in Nikki Sixx or anything drug related and just in general anyone who loves to read.

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire and was baptised on 26 April 1564. His father was a glovemaker and wool merchant and his mother, Mary Arden, the daughter of a well-to-do local landowner. Shakespeare was probably educated in Stratford's grammar school. The next documented event in Shakespeare's life is his marriage in 1582 to Anne Hathaway, daughter of a farmer. The couple had a daughter the following year and twins in 1585. There is now another gap, referred to by some scholars as 'the lost years', with Shakespeare only reappearing in London in 1592, when he was already working in the theatre.
Shakespeare's acting career was spent with the Lord Chamberlain's Company, which was renamed the King's Company in 1603 when James succeeded to the throne. Among the actors in the group was the famous Richard Burbage. The partnership acquired interests in two theatres in the Southwark area of London, near the banks of the Thames - the Globe and the Blackfriars.
Shakespeare's poetry was published before his plays, with two poems appearing in 1593 and 1594, dedicated to his patron Henry Wriothesley, Earl of Southampton. Most of Shakespeare's sonnets were probably written at this time as well. Records of Shakespeare's plays begin to appear in 1594, and he produced roughly two a year until around 1611. His earliest plays include 'Henry VI' and 'Titus Andronicus'. 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', 'The Merchant of Venice' and 'Richard II' all date from the mid to late 1590s. Some of his most famous tragedies were written in the early 1600s including 'Hamlet', 'Othello', 'King Lear' and 'Macbeth'. His late plays, often known as the Romances, date from 1608 onwards and include 'The Tempest'.
Shakespeare spent the last five years of his life in Stratford, by now a wealthy man. He died on 23 April 1616 and was buried in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford. The first collected edition of his works was published in 1623 and is known as 'the First Folio'.

My favorite to date of Shakespeare's plays has to be The Merchant Of Venice.
I particularly like the inscription of the scroll from the gold box from Act II - Scene VII:
"All that glisters is not gold;
Often have you heard that told:
Many a man his life hath sold
But my outside to behold:
Gilded tombs do worms enfold.
Had you been as wise as bold,
Young in limbs, in judgement old
Your answer had not been inscroll'd
Fare you well, your suit is cold"
Not all that appears to be precious and 'gold' always is. You have to look past the surface and see whats beneath.

Why can't we, in this supposed modern civilised world, accept without labels? Accept without judgement? Accept without prejudices? Allow people to be who they want to be, live the way and the life they want to. Love who they please, after all, love is universal, no matter who with, Love is Love.
